Michael
Martin, born about 1822 and his wife, Fredericka,
resided in the area now known as Battle Creek Park,
St. Paul, Minnesota. They immigrated here from
Germany via Alsace, France, probably in the late
1840's. Past family recollections say they entered
through Canada and then to Detroit, Michigan. Their
only son Arthur Martin was born in Detroit in 1853.
Michael
died in October of 1857 and was buried on his
property at Battle Creek. About 1860 Fredericka
married Louis Nickow and from that marriage 3
children were born. Louis died November 2, 1907 and
Fredericka died September 23, 1908. Arthur and his
half brothers and sister sold the properties left by
their parents in 1920 and moved the remains of
Michael to Oakland Cemetery in St. Paul. Fredericka
was buried at Roselawn Cemetery, St. Paul.
Unfortunately,
at this time we know very little about Michael and
Fredericka except for the information listed above.
Further research may bring more information about
them to light.
