Information on the Wiltshire lineage begins with John Henry Wiltshire Sr.

At the present time we have no knowledge of his parentage, but we know that he had a number of brothers and sisters, of which we have names for a couple. One of his brothers was named Fred and at some point in time emigrated to Canada, possibly Toronto or Montreal, and another brother named Arthur.

He also had a brother that was a sailor, either in the British Navy or Merchant Marines. His name is not know to us at present, but information passed down from family members was that he was washed overboard while at sea while serving on the SS Memphis in 1897 and was never recovered.

Another brother or maybe an uncle, again no knowledge of name, was apparently a Redcoat as can be seen in a photograph published on another page.

Another brother, again no name, shows up in a portrait taken in South Africa with what is assumed to be a son.

Hopefully, further research may find out more about the parentage and siblings of John Henry. The family was large from what we've been able to gain knowledge of with John Henry having 9 brothers and ? sisters.

John Henry married Ellen Neate (b. Aug 16, 1873) 19 June 1893 and from that marriage came three sons, John Henry Jr, Leslie, and Frederick; five daughters, Ethel, Emily, Evelyn, Dorothy and Mary.

It is also know that John Henry owned a shop in Shirehampton on High Street and sold Cigars, candy and other items. John Henry operated the shop from 1896 - 1924. Aunt Mary contributed some information on the history of Shire Hampton to a local newspaper in the early 1960's along with a couple of pictures. A transcript of that information will appear on another page of this website in the near future along with the pictures that appeared, taken probably between 1900 - 1920.
