With the Japanese being the enemy, all civilians one the island fell into that category as well. Therefore, all were considered Prisoners or War, and were held in interment camps. However, because we signed the Geneva Convention Pact, our treatment of POWs was more humane then that of our enemies. Below are some pictures from the POW camps.
